Since upgrading to Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge release 83.x or later, some users may have issues with uploading images into the content area of blog posts or documents, or with uploading banners, pictures, or other static resources to spaces, places, groups, or blogs.
This article contains possible workarounds for this issue and will be updated with details of the permanent solution as soon as it becomes available.
- Jive Hosted / On-Prem 8.0+
- Jive Cloud
Below is an example of how to replicate this issue when uploading images to an individual piece of content, such as a blog post, but the problem may also occur when uploading images or other assets the Static Upload Content plug-in, or when uploading files to a Place directly using the Manage Files option.
Update Chrome or Edge to the latest version (83.0.x or later).
Create a piece of content in Jive (blog post, discussion, etc.)
Click on the Insert image button.
- Select an image to upload, then click Open.
The Insert image button becomes greyed-out and the image is not inserted.
You may also see the message 'An unknown error has occurred uploading the image.."
This issue is currently being investigated by Jive Engineering as a matter of priority. The latest information that we have is that the chromium project (maker of the chrome browser engine) is aware of the issue and planning to release a fix in version 84 within a few weeks. However, there are a number of immediate workarounds that should enable you to successfully upload images, which have been tested on both Windows and Mac.
- Download and install the Canary (beta) version (85) of Chrome, which does not have this issue from https://www.google.com/chrome/canary/
Use a different web browser, such as Firefox or Safari.Note: This is the only valid workaround (unless you upgrade to the beta version) for issues with uploading static content using the Static Upload Content plug-in, or when uploading files to a Place directly using the Manage Files option.
Use Drag 'n' Drop to drop the image onto the Rich Text Editor instead of using the Insert Image button.
